Wayfinding
A field guide to understanding and evolving who you are
You have been Wayfinding longer than you have had a word for it. Identity change often begins before a new identity becomes clear. The work still gets done. Other people may still value the person doing it. The life may still make sense on paper. Inside that life, the old arrangement has begun to ask for more than it gives back.
Wayfinding is an evidence-informed practice for this interval. It helps a person notice what has started to move, separate questions that have been answering for one another, bring possible futures into contact with reality, and change what gets to carry authority.
01 · The missing interval
Most change frameworks start after the hardest part has already begun.
The calendar still has meetings. The work still gets done. Other people may call this stability because they can only see the life from the outside. From inside it, the person is working harder to hold together an arrangement that no longer answers the same questions.
Wayfinding begins in the interval between recognition and replacement. It gives people a way to read a life that is still functioning while something inside it is already moving.
02 · The research lens
A mixed research program, not a final theory.
The findings are sample-centered and correlational. The report distinguishes observed patterns, exploratory signals and propositions that require further testing.
03 · What this dispatch examines
Recognition is distributed
No single room holds the whole person. Accurate recognition can still be narrow.
Questions collapse under pressure
Capability, desire, permission, responsibility and practical room need separate answers.
Reality supplies missing information
Small tests reveal energy, resistance, another person’s response, financial viability and whether a desire survives inconvenience.
Reweighting changes what carries authority
A person may move, revise the terms, establish a boundary or consciously recommit. Staying can be an authored outcome.
AI can help without becoming the author
AI can help fragments from work, relationships, history, the body, responsibility and possible futures meet in one conversation. It does not own the judgment, carry the consequences or author the life.
04 · A recursive practice
Notice, Separate, Test and Reweight can begin from any point.
Four connected movements within one field — not a sequence, funnel or set of mandatory stages. Enter where the current question lives.
Notice
What is changing, repeating, costing more, creating energy or becoming harder to ignore?
Separate
Which questions have become tangled together?
Test
What can reality teach me that reflection cannot?
Reweight
What deserves more attention, less authority, different terms, another test or a conscious recommitment?
Use the movement that answers what is blocking interpretation now. Then read the field again.
